Nesting

After months spent moving out of our house in Lincoln and weeks spent traveling, it feels like our lives are finally getting back to normal. We found a great apartment in Burriana, just down the street from where Dreamer will be working. So, my apologies for the lack of posts, but the past week has been spent in full-on nesting mode, building up our new domicile. The best part for me is that I have a kitchen again! A very close second is high speed Internet. And of course we have both been house drunk on all the projects this

Soothing

Our dog, “Latte,” is a compulsive paw-licker. When Dreamer and Latte first moved in with “Buddy” and me, I’d get annoyed at Latte when he was going at the same paw for ten minutes while we were trying to sleep or watch a movie. The fur was already dripping wet and it was clearly clean – couldn’t he at least move on to another paw? But Dreamer always told me it was soothing to him, so we should let him continue. I think we have found Dreamer’s version of paw-licking… Suffice to say, we ran into some more bureaucratic snafus

Hay que tener THita

I rented a car on Wednesday to take us and all of our bags from Madrid to our home provincia of Castellón. As expected, the rental experience – from leaving the hotel to arriving back with car in hand – felt like it took several hours. Dreamer informs me she was not waiting back at the hotel with bags for quite that long. I swear it was at least two hours, maybe three. After forgetting that the subway line to Atocha train station was closed for repairs, I had to take a taxi from a stop more distant than our hotel. Finding the rental car

A Tribute to My Wife, Paperwork Ninja

Our visas came today. I will note today is exactly the government-mandated 4 week date (plus mailing time of 1 day). So once again we learn that bureaucrats are nothing if not consistent. Too bad for the first set of plane tickets I bought (my pocketbook, really): a 4-week processing time does not mean 3 1/2 weeks. And woe to those who apply for Spanish visas with a 12-week processing time, who will almost certainly not be getting their passports back in 11 weeks and 6 days. I do have to thank my lovely wife for her constant attention and preoccupation

Waiting

We were supposed to move to Spain today. That didn’t happen. Earlier this year, I applied for a position as a North American Language and Culture Assistant in Spain. Living abroad has been a lifelong dream of mine, and after a honeymoon in France and Italy, my new groom was on board. I had learned about the Auxiliares de Conversación program in college, but at the time I couldn’t make it happen. Years later, I was delighted to learn the program was still going strong, and I submitted my application in early January. Waiting to find out if we would
